Kokwana Daycare Centre
Kokwana is a Daycare Centre in Namakgale, one of the villages around Phalaborwa and exists from 1999. Kokwana is home for approximately 30-40 children from the age of 0 until 4. They are being taken care of by Kokwana (which means ‘grandmother’ in Shangaan, the local language) and four volunteers. The Daycare Centre is living from the small amounts which mothers are paying monthly, private donations and sponsorship.
In 2005 the Daycare Centre got a new building, realized by the SCDF. The project is finished completely and has a sleeping room, a room to play in, a store room, toilets and a basin with flowing water and a covered outside playing area. The children can arrive from 6 o’clock in the morning and can be picked up until 6 o’clock in the evening. They are getting a meal twice a day.
