| NKATLILE DAYCARE CENTRE
This day-care centre is based in Makushane, one of the other villages around Phalaborwa. Nkatlile accommodates approximately 70-80 children per day divided into two groups. It is a private initiative without any financial help from the municipality. The families of the children are paying a certain amount per month if they can afford it. Not too long ago, the local Chief asked them to leave their location because it was not safe enough; the day-care centre was built near the main road. They were allocated another stand in the middle of Makushane which has a small building of approximately 12 m2 which, obviously, isn’t big enough to daily accommodate 70-80 children and provide them with a meal.
Amgen, a pharmaceutical company from the Netherlands is very much involved with Nkatlile’s situation. They visited us in the beginning of 2007 and they made sure, together with the SCDF, that Nkatlile receives a decent new building! The building process of the new day-care centre started on the 19th of November 2007.
